Case Study: Building a Custom Mobile Workforce Platform Integrated with Odoo
A growing manufacturer in the bathroom fittings industry was implementing
Odoo v18 as the foundation for its wider business transformation.
At the same time, the organization needed a practical way to support employees
whose day-to-day work happened outside the office, including attendance,
field visits, follow-ups, travel planning, expense submission, inquiries,
and order-related processes.
Rather than treating mobile access as an afterthought, a custom mobile
workforce platform was developed to bring selected operational workflows
closer to the people performing them. The application was designed as an
extension of the wider Odoo environment, giving field users a mobile-first
interface while supporting a more connected flow of operational information.

About the Client
Business ProfileThe client is a growing manufacturer in the bathroom fittings industry, operating in a competitive market where product availability, customer engagement, field activity, and operational responsiveness play an important role in business growth.
The company is backed by ISO 9001:2015 certification and is undertaking a broader digital transformation initiative using Odoov18. As the organization continues to grow, employees working in the field also need practical access to selected business processes without relying on manual reporting or waiting to return to a desktop environment.
The Challenge: Business Operations Do Not Stop at the Office
Operational Requirements
For many manufacturing organizations, the ERP system becomes the central point
for business information, but a significant part of the workforce may not spend
its day in front of an ERP screen. Field teams travel, meet customers and
business partners, follow up on activities, submit expenses, manage tasks,
capture inquiries, and participate in order-related processes while away
from the office.
The challenge was therefore not simply to make Odoo available on a smaller screen. The objective
was to create a mobile experience designed around the actual working patterns of employees in
the field while maintaining a connection with the organization's wider business systems.
Key Mobile Workforce Challenges
Mobile Access
Mobile access to selected workforce and operational processes.
Attendance & Check-In
Structured recording of attendance and check-in activities.
Follow-Ups
A practical way to manage follow-ups while employees are on the move.
Travel & Field Planning
Better organization of travel plans, tasks, and event-related activities.
Expense Capture
Mobile submission and management of expenses.
Product Access
Access to product information when working outside the office.
Inquiries & Orders
Capture of inquiries and selected order-related activity from the field.
ERP Connection
A connected path between mobile activity and the wider Odoo environment
The Solution: A Purpose-Built Mobile Workforce Platform
The solution was to develop a custom mobile application focused on the
workflows employees need when they are away from their desks. Instead of
replicating the entire Odoo interface inside a mobile application, the
platform concentrates on selected activities and presents them through a
mobile-first experience.
This approach allows the mobile application to serve as an operational extension of Odoo rather
than a disconnected standalone tool. Relevant information can be captured through the mobile
experience and connected to the wider business environment as part of the organization's digital
operating model.

Mobile Capabilities in the Current Platform
Mobile-First WorkflowsThe platform is also being developed with further expansion in mind. Target management, POP & Gift functionality, announcements, and team-member functionality are identified as planned additions to the application.
Workforce & Daily Activity
- Attendance: Supports the recording of employee attendance through the mobile application.
- Check In: Provides a mobile workflow for recording check-in activity.
- Task: Gives users access to task-related activity through the application
- Leave: Supports leave-related processes through the mobile platform.
Field Operations And Management
- Follow Up: Allows users to manage and record follow-up activities.
- Travel Plan: Supports the planning and management of employee travel activities.
- Event Plan: Provides functionality for event-related planning and activity.
- Inquiry: Supports the capture and management of inquiries generated through field activity.
Commercial Activity
- Products: Provides mobile access to product-related information.
- Primary Order: Supports selected primary order activity through the mobile application.
Expense Management
- Expense: Provides a structured mobile workflow for expense-related activity.
Designing for the Way Field Teams Actually Work
The core design principle behind the project was straightforward: employees working in the field should not be forced to interact with business systems in the same way as office-based users.
A field employee may need to record attendance at the beginning of the day, plan travel, visit a
customer or business partner, check in, review product information, record a follow-up, capture an
inquiry, submit an expense, or initiate an order-related process. These activities occur throughout
the day and often away from a traditional workstation.
The mobile platform was therefore designed around shorter, focused workflows. Each function is
intended to help users complete a specific activity from their mobile device while contributing to a
more structured business process.

Connecting the Mobile Experience with Odoo
Connected Business ArchitectureThe mobile application is being developed alongside the organization's Odoo v18 implementation. Its role is to extend selected business processes to mobile users and support a more connected operational environment. This is an important distinction. The application is not positioned as a replacement for Odoo. Odoo remains part of the central business platform, while the mobile application provides an experience designed specifically around field and workforce activity.
What the Platform Changes
Operational OutcomesThe value of the project is not simply that employees have another application on their phones. The mobile platform creates a more structured way for field activity to become part of the organization's wider digital operating environment.
More Structured Field Activity
Employees have dedicated workflows for common activities such as attendance, follow-ups, travel planning, expenses, inquiries, and tasks.
Mobile Accessibility
Selected processes can be performed where the work happens rather than only when employees return to a desktop system.
Improved Information Capture
Business activities can be recorded through defined mobile workflows instead of relying solely on informal or manual reporting methods.
Closer ERP Connection
The application is designed as part of the broader Odoo environment rather than as an isolated mobile tool.
A Scalable Foundation
The platform can continue to expand as additional workforce and business requirements are introduced.
A Platform Designed to Expand
What's NextThe current mobile application establishes the foundation for workforce and field operations, while the roadmap extends beyond the functionality currently available.
Target
Additional functionality related to employee or field targets.
POP & Gift
Planned support for promotional and gift-related activities.
Announcement
Mobile communication and announcement functionality.
Team Member
Additional functionality related to team visibility or management.
This phased approach allows the platform to grow with the organization's operational requirements rather than attempting to deliver every possible mobile feature at the beginning of the project.
Current Outcome: Establishing the Mobile Foundation
Because the wider Odoo implementation is still in progress, this case study intentionally does not
claim financial ROI, percentage productivity improvements, or adoption statistics that have not yet
been independently measured.
The current achievement is the successful development of a working mobile platform covering
multiple operational workflows, including attendance, follow-ups, check-in, products, travel
planning, tasks, event planning, expenses, primary orders, inquiries, and leave management.
As the application and ERP environment continue to roll out, future versions of this case study can
measure user adoption, mobile activity volumes, process turnaround times, reporting effort, and
other verified operational outcomes.
Working Platform
Multiple workforce and field workflows are already functional.
Mobile-First Experience
Selected business processes are available through a dedicated mobile interface.
Future Measurement
Adoption, activity volumes, turnaround times, and process improvements can be added once verified.
Looking Ahead: From Mobile Platform to a Broader Digital Operating Model
This mobile workforce platform is part of a wider technology journey.
Odoo v18 is being implemented as the organization's ERP foundation,
while the mobile application extends selected processes to employees working
beyond the traditional office environment.
As the ERP implementation progresses and additional processes are brought
into the connected operating model, the mobile platform can continue to
evolve alongside it. The long-term objective is not simply to add more
features to an application, but to create practical digital access points
for the people performing the organization's day-to-day work.
Project at a Glance
Note: This case study describes the current scope and functionality of the mobile platform based on the project information provided. The broader Odoo ERP implementation remains in progress, and measurable ROI or adoption outcomes should be added only when verified operational data becomes available.
